The swastika is an extremely powerful symbol. For centuries it had positive meanings and is the oldest known symbol dating back at least 3000 years. The word "swastika" comes from the Sanskrit svastika - "su" meaning "good," "asti" meaning "to be," and "ka" as a suffix. the swastika was used by many cultures throughout the past 3,000 years to represent life, sun, power, strength, and good luck. It is commonly used as such by Buddhists and Hindus as is the case in this image from a small town near Kathmandu, Nepal.
