Southwest In The Northwest

Smith Rocks look like they belong in Arizona but are located on the Oregon high desert plateau, around 3000 feet in elevation. It is a prime destination for rock climbing.


Millions of years ago this area was a major center of volcanic activity. The major rock faces are composed of welded tuff (compressed volcanic ash) and reach a height of up to 550 feet.
